Shopping and the Times Line

Well, I just got in from shopping with Mrs. Ward. No, we don't normally hang out together on the weekends (and we probably won't make it a regular event), but we had a common goal today--shopping for the LL-I! (Mrs. Ward has some odd tastes in movies and television shows. You might want to ask her about that.) All in all, we behaved ourselves, at least I did, and had fun walking around and picking up the things we are going to need for the big event. It's going to be fun!! We have a few BIG SURPRISES up our sleeves, so get ready to party!! Don't forget the last day to reserve your spot in the LL-I is this coming Tuesday! We hope you are planning on coming!

This week we had four of our normal multiplication drills and then a big 100 question test on Friday. The Times Line has been updated to include those test scores, too!

You might notice the link at the bottom of this post that says "Labels: Time Line." If you click on that link, you will go to a page with everything posted thus far about our "TIMES Line." You will see what each category means and how your child has improved (hopefully) each time. Currently that is only two posts, but as we move on and more is added, you will be able to see all similar postings together. I will create those links for any postings that have anything in common. I think that will come in handy this summer as we try our online book club!

Also, don't forget that persmission slips and money for the Lock-In are due by next Tuesday! The excitement is building!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!

SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!

Okay, now everyone know the big news! Yes--we, along with Mrs. Ward's class, are going to have a lock-in at the school! I truly hope that each and every student is able to come. We have so many fun things planned, and it will be a night to remember, for sure. I know that there are a lot of soccer and baseball games that weekend, but this is going to be something I hope you find worth scheduling in.

Some of the planned events include a lip-sync contest, relay races, and few things I don't want to share just yet. You can trust me when I tell you that everyone involved will have a great time! I have been so excited to plan this with Mrs. Ward, and I wish I could have been there to share the announcement with everyone. Nevertheless, I WILL be there that night, and I WILL make sure that we all have tons of fun!

Some other upcoming dates to keep in mind:

April 30--No school for students
May 10--Career Day
May 14-16--International Festival
May 17--International Festival Cafe is open
May 18--Field Day!
May 23--I AM Somebody Celebration
May 24--1/2 day of school for students --LAST DAY of 3rd GRADE!

A Proud Sister

This entry is more of a personal note; it will give you a little insight into my family. In February, my brother accepted a job with United Space Alliance, a contractor for NASA, to help design parts for the new vehicle that will be replacing the space shuttle in a few years. He is also helping with the current rocket boosters that help the shuttle get into space. As you may have heard, the last attempt to send up the shuttle was delayed because of a hail storm. Well, Brandon was able to go into the Vehicle Assembly Building where they are making the repairs, and he had his photo taken in front of the shuttle. He likes to tell me about all of the cool things he gets to do, because he knows it makes me extremely jealous! What he doesn't know is that I am also extremely proud of him. What do you think about a field trip to Florida to see a launch? Maybe we could all stay at Brandon's house!?

The "TIMES Line"

Everyone knows we have been working very diligently on memorizing our multiplication facts, and now we are united to help each other reach a common goal--being above the "Times Line." Every day from now until the end of the year, our class will take a two minute drill of mixed multiplication facts. Those quick drills are then graded and the average grades are used to determine who is above the "Times Line." Anyone averaging an 80% or higher makes it on the list. So far, after five drills, the list is as follows:
  • Erykat
  • Hoody
  • Idol
  • Bubblez
  • Rememberizer
  • Money Bags
  • D'Off
  • Garbage Man
  • the Incredible Handy
  • Gavinator
I am very proud of these ten students who have worked very hard. There is another group who has also worked hard, and they made the MIM list--"Most Improved Multipliers." That list includes any student who has made over a 5 point increase in their average over the last few tests. The MIMers are:
  • Mimi
  • Gavinator
  • Fall Girl
  • Pink Princess
  • Ohio
  • DA
  • Big Banana
  • Quiet Mouse
  • Half Pint
  • Pink Lady
  • D'Off

I am very proud of these students' hard work! They are headed in the right direction! The final group we are tracking is the "100 Club." This list includes any student who has gotten a perfect score on at least one of the timed drills. They are:
  • Bubblez
  • Hoody
  • Rememberizer
  • Erykat
  • Garbage Man
  • Gavinator
  • Idol
  • D'Off

The class goal is to get everyone above the "Time Line" by the end of the year. IF we can do that, the class will earn a pizza party during the last week of school. That means we aren't satisfied just to get one person above the line. We have to work together as a team to ensure that we all get there! Do YOUR part to help yourself AND your friends!! Keep studying and don't give up!!

And to try adding pictures again, here is one of a beautiful sunset and one of a family of manatees I happened upon while I was down in Florida over spring break. I can't wait to go back this summer!

First Blog Entry

Hello students! With the summer vacation quickly approaching, I wanted to set up a way for everyone to keep in touch over the summer. The website is nice, but you haven't been able to write or respond to any of the messages, so this blog will solve those problems!

I will be able to post pictures (with permission, of course) of things we have done. Of course, I'll have to learn how to do that first, but give me time. I'll get there! Here is my first attempt. (Keep your fingers crossed!) For those of you who have never met my sweet dog, Oliver, here is a fairly recent photo of him.

My goal for this blog is to have a reading list (or at least one book) that we can talk about over the summer. I will send home more information before school ends, but I thought I would go ahead and set up the blog now.

When you post to this blog, you don't have to register, but please be sure to include your first name (or nickname) with anything you do contribute.

Well, that is about it for now. What do you think? Will this be something you will check during the summer? What book or books would you like for the class to read over the summer break? Give me some ideas--I'm open to just about anything!
