Fundraisers and Other Items of Note

Fundraising packets went home yesterday. Hopefully you got one. if not please let me know ASAP! I have two packets here at school and I'm not sure why. According to the video we watched, if your child has sold two items by this Friday, they can bring the order form in and get a free pen. The order forms will then come back home until the end of the sale on October 6.

Also, please remember that we collect "Box Tops for Education"off of General Mills brand food and products. Before you toss those boxes, check and see if you can clip the box top. For a list of items with the special tops, click here.

Book orders are also due by end of day next Tuesday. Click HERE to access the site online. our class user name is: karraker The password is: bookorder Not very creative, is it?

That is about it. Don't' forget you and your child can leave messages here online. Very soon, look for student work to be added here. To help make that go a little smoother, let your child practice typing at home. keyboarding skills will be very important for these students when they grow up! Let's start practicing now!

Have a good week!

Our First Seminar

Today is Patriot's Day--a day set aside to remember and honor the Americans who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We had a seminar today that tied in with Patriot's Day. The students were given a copy of a poem that was written about the American flag. It was written after 9-11 and so it has many references to that tragic day. So the students talked about what they knew and we discussed how important the flag was right after all of that happened. I told them how it was such an important and unifying symbol for Americans. The students then worked with a partner to complete a seminar product. They were to pick any American flag throughout history and describe what it would have seen, felt, and said if it could do that. Some chose to be the flag on the Twin Towers, others picked the first flag sewn by Betsy Ross; we even had students chose the flag on the moon and one used during the Civil Rights Movement! I think the seminar went well! I hope your child talks with you about it tonight!

If you are interested, the poem we used is actually a song by Michael W. Smith called "There She Stands." Click HERE to hear it! I think it is a beautiful song. Enjoy!

A Personal Post

The weekend was a good one as my nephew celebrated his first birthday. He had a good time, and it was good to see so much family together for a positive reason. It was a lot of driving in a short amount of time, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I was very pleased to get back and hear that the class did so well with our guest teacher. Anyhow, I am including a couple of photos for friends and family to see. (Of course the theme of the party was St. Louis Cardinals baseball!) Yes, I am a bit biased, but I think he is a cute little baby! And he even loves me now! (About time, right?)
My school family will get a break from these personal entries for a while now. I promise! Thanks for indulging me!
